 Greetings,

We hope everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day, and weekend. By the way, we will be open on Memorial Day, from 8 am until 9 pm.......so come by if you forgot to stock up on wine or liquor for the grill-out!

With the hot weather starting, we thought we'd mention a few lighter and/or white wines to begin enjoying this time of year.

Vinho Verde wines are becomming more popular in Nashville in the past few years - we carry 4 different ones. They are priced from $7.99 - $9.99 and are quite refreshing.
For those of you not familiar with Vinho Verde, it is a wine made in Northern Portugal  from Alvarinho, Loureiro, and Trajadura grapes - so, a blend. The wine itself has a touch of spritz/effervesence, and is lighter in alcohol than most wines -  usually 9-10% alcohol, as opposed to 12.5% - 16% for many/most other wines. It is a perfect "quaffing" wine, and everyone should try it at least once - it is unique! And quite good.

Just  arrived in the store -- 5 cases of a great little white blend we tasted and ordered 4 months ago. The Yvon Mau Colombard Chardonnay is a 50-50 blend of these 2 varietals. it is made in the Cotes De Gascogne region of western France, halfway between Bordeaux and Spain. At $8.99, this is a bargain -- the Colombard gives a touch of pleasant citrus / fruitiness and good natural acidity and minerality,  while the Chardonnay adds more "oomph" and backbone.

  Two new Spanish whites:

Protocolo White ....$8.99.  A blend of 70% Airen and 30% Macabeo, this is a perennial favorite when you're looking for "something different" from Spain. Light and fresh with citrus tones and a dry finish. Just back in nashville, 2007 is the current vintage. The Protocolo red is also back, and the 2005 vintage is the current one for that....same price, $8.99.

Jazzmin......$15.99.  Another blend, this one is 60% Macabeo and 40% Airen. The Macabeo contributes more peach/apricot/stone fruit qualities with a crisp, mineral finish. Kind of like Protocolo White on steroids - more depth, body, and complexity here.

The Best for last:

Shinas Estate Viognier "The Innocent".....$19.99.
Winemaker George Shinas himself was in the store last week, and we tasted this, one of the finest Viogniers we have ever tasted. George's small wine estate is in Northern Victoria, Australia, right at the border with New South Wales. George started making wines in the mid 1980's and makes only 3 wines....all of them hand-made and small-production..... maximum production on any of them is only 2,500 cases.
George is also the night court judge in his town and hence the names of his wines. We have the Viognier "The Innocent" and the Shiraz, which is called "The Guilty".......also great, and also priced at $19.99

Just one more thing.......our friends at L'ete Du Vin have a few seats left for an incredible dinner at Fleming's, here on West End Avenue, this coming Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 pm. Besides contributing to a great cause that raises money for cancer research, here's an opportunity to enjoy a fantastic dinner with some incredible wines. The price is $175.00 per person, of which $50.00 is tax deductible. Please check out the menu and wine selections below........

By the way, if you went out and purchased just the wines alone, you would spend more than the whole dinner!! The Rubicon itself is $120.00 per bottle, retail.

Guest of honor will be well-known artist Thomas Arvid, who is known among wine enthusiasts for his beautiful paintings of wine-related themes. Here's a little info about Thomas:

Artist Thomas Arvid continues to astonish both art and wine enthusiasts with his monumental compositions that capture the delicate beauty of wine and the evocative pleasure of its

consumption. Achieving widespread success with his iconic portrayals of the wine experience, Arvid has become synonymous with the art of living graciously.

Also in attendance will be well-known artist / singer / songwriter Billy Dean, who has had major hits on the country charts and is a wine and food aficionado. Rumor is that Billy will perform a song or two during or after the dessert course, and might have a few songwriter friends join him!
Where else but Nashville would you find this extra feature, a live music performance by a major artist, to an already great evening??!!

Just call the number listed below for reservations. We hope you will join us for a wonderful evening and at the chancesame time show your support for L'ete Du Vin in the fight against cancer. Of course, you may always call us and we would be glad to make reservations for you.
